The Electoral Commission (EC) has pledged to publish the 2024 election results on its website in real time.
This assurance came after the African Union High Representative for Silencing the Guns, Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas, urged the commission to publish the results immediately after collating them.
His view was that publishing the results would build trust in the commission.
His comments come on the heels of the concerns raised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over irregularities in the voter register,
Speaking at the inaugural Diplomatic Honours ceremony in Accra, on Saturday, September 14 Dr. Ibn Chambas stressed the importance of transparency in the electoral process and emphasized that the EC can still regain the confidence of political parties and other stakeholders by taking concrete steps to ensure openness and accountability.
He stated, “It is not too late to work to win the trust and confidence of all parties and stakeholders in the electoral process”
Dr. Ibn Chambas added, “Specifically, ensuring the publication of polling station results on the website of the Electoral Commission is one measure that will greatly advance and enhance the credibility and transparency of the process, and this will sound like music to some of our partners here who have made this recommendation time and again.”
Following his call, a Deputy Commissioner at the EC, Dr Bossman Asare has assured that the commission will take his suggestion on board
“This is something that the commission has discussed, this is something the commission is going to do in 2024 to make sure that the polling station results are published on our websites way before the people who want to go to court or want to test the law do that. Indeed, it is something that the commission has discussed and we are going to be doing it.
“Since it is the first time the commission is doing we will ensure that once we have the full results of all the polling stations then we go ahead and do it,” he stated.
