The Appiatse Reconstruction Implementation Team has disclosed over 40 buildings owned by FGR are being refurbished and roofed to resettle victims of the Appiatse explosion.

The move follows a violent rainstorm that hit the southern sector of the country last week and ripped off tents sheltering some victims of the Appiatse community.

Funding for the work, according to the team, has already been allocated and is proceeding earnestly.

Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and Chairman of the Appiatse Reconstruction Implementation Team, Hon. Benito Owusu Bio disclosed this in a statement to the media.

The Reconstruction Implementation Team, he said, anticipated the beginning of the rainy season in March-April will make housing the victims in the tents untenable and has therefore been working around the clock to provide temporary accommodation at Odumase since February.

“Over 40 buildings owned by FGR are being refurbished and roofed, so we can resettle the victims of the explosion by 1st May, 2022.”

“Meanwhile, working with NADMO, immediate interventions like replacement of destroyed tents and provision of warmers are being organized urgently,” he stated.

According to him, members of the Reconstruction Implementation Team and the Municipal Coordinating Council are also on hand to receive specific concerns that will be addressed speedily as it has always done.

Hon. Benito Bio noted that the people of Appiatse have demonstrated admirable resilience so far as work to rebuild their township progresses.

The impact of the heavy downpour, he said, is an additional challenge but urged the affected victims to take heart and registered his deepest concerns about the situation on behalf of the government and the ministry.
