The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of National Youth Authority(NYA) Pius Enam Hadzide has urged the Ghanaian youth not to prioritised money as the only way to achieve success in life but to be patriotic citizens.
He said, youth in most of the developing countries love for patriotism has gone down which declined development in the country.
The NYA boss disclosed this when Ghana joined the world to celebrate this year’s International Volunteering Day 2022 on 5th December 2022 in Accra on the theme”Solidarity through Volunteerism”.
The International Volunteering Day (IVD) was established on December 1985, as the United General Assembly adopted resolution 40/212 module to charge the government and other stakeholders in acknowledging Volunteerism and it’s numerous impact by creating awareness of importance contributions of Volunteerism Services across the globe.
The CEO of NYA, stressed the need for Ghanaian Youth to have the country at their heart and defend the good name of their mother land since that will be a legacy that will be remembered on all the time. He quickly added that, leaders should create avenue for youth to help established themselves in terms of employment, socialisation and encouragement.
Mr. Hadzide said, the theme for this year’s celebration” soliciting through volunteering” serves as a clarion call for everyone to notice the potency of volunteerism in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s).
National Youth Authority (NYA) knowing the importance of Volunteerism among our young people, this has lighted the NYA to introduce National Youth Volunteering Programme (NYVP) to inculcate the spirit of patriotism, nationalism and community service into the youth. He noted.
However, the NYVP allows the young people to offer volunteering in various communities under the modules such as Youth Development, Education, Gender Mainstreaming, Infrastructure as these services offered in the spirit of nationalism and community service which help to localised the effort and Contributions of the country in Achieving SDG’s.
The Volunteer groups in the country has contributed immensely to the National development: example during convid-19 pandemic some of the volunteer groups were disseminated critical public health information through distribution of necessity such as PPE’s and food during lockdown. Mr Hadzide disclosed.
He urged all Ghanaians to
inspired by many individuals who selflessly devote themselves to
volunteering work and help resolve part of contributions free and proactive to change conditions towards a better future.
