Agriculture is an integral part of Ghana’s economy and a major source of livelihood for many rural households in the Northern part of the country. Hence the renewed effort by both government and the private sector to encourage more youth to venture into Agriculture.

Think Hub Incubation Center-ThinkHubIC, a private business incubation hub has trained 577 applicants under Youth In Innovative Agriculture Programme under the Ghana Cares “Obaatan Pa” programme.

The National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme-NEIP implementors of the programme contracted Think Hub to train mentor and recommend for funding applicants in the Savannah Region (Damongo) of Ghana.

They were also given soft skills and training in entrepreneurship and essential skills.

Speaking to the media after the training, Co-Founder of Think Hub. Prince Twumasi Osei, said the training was very successful and thanked the government for such a programme. He said the youth of Ghana, especially in the northern part of Ghana are ready to be change makers in the their respective communities.

He therefore appealed to government to do more to whip the entrepreneurial mindset among the youth.

” The problem of unemployment can be reduced if only we push more youth into entrepreneurship by giving them training and funding “

The Youth In Innovative Agriculture Programmes seeks to enlist young people between the ages of eighteen (18) to forty (40) Years who are in Agriculture to be trained and funded.

Shortlisted applicants will receive an amount ranging from Ten Thousand (10,000) to One Hundred Thousand (100,000) Ghana Cedis after they have gone through training and mentoring

The Ghana CARES (Obaatan pa) programme is an unprecedented, bold and audacious GHȻ100 billion post COVID programme to stabilise, revitalise and transform Ghana’s economy to create jobs and prosperity for Ghanaians over a three-year period. It is sequenced in two phases: a Stabilisation Phase that is running from July to the end of the year (2020); and a medium-term Revitalization Phase from 2021-2023.

The first phase of the programme builds on the actions already taken by the Government under the Coronavirus Alleviation Programme, including stabilisation of the economy, ensuring food security, supporting businesses and workers, strengthening the health system and passage of legislation to facilitate quick economic recovery.

The second phase aims at revitalising and transforming the economy from 2021-2023 will focus on supporting commercial farming and attracting educated youth into agriculture, building Ghana’s light manufacturing sector, developing engineering/machine tools and ICT/digital economy, developing Ghana’s housing and construction industry, reviewing and optimising the implementation of Government flagships and key programmes among others.
