Dr Amina Achiaa Asiedu-Amoah, the Proprietress of Jesus Cares School at Obuasi in the Ashanti Region, has made a strong case for the Government to support private schools to thrive as a way of strengthening Ghana’s education system.
She said private schools approximately constituted three-quarters of schools in Ghana, filling the gap left by the insufficient public schools, thereby providing choices for low-income households.
The Proprietress, speaking at the school’s third graduation ceremony, said it was important for the Government to support private schools for their complementary role in the education sector.
“The Role of Stakeholders in Academic and Moral Excellence towards National Development,” was the theme for the programme, attended by parents among other stakeholders.
Dr Asiedu-Amoah said private schools played key roles in educating the Ghanaian child and deserved Government’s support to enhance their operations in line with government’s vision for quality education at all levels.
She underlined the need for stakeholders in education to play their role in ensuring access to quality education which was the foundation upon which societies construct a prosperous and forward-thinking future.
“Academic excellence is about developing well-rounded people who can make significant contributions to society,” she said.
Mr Denis Oteng, a Co-Chairman of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), emphasised the importance of parents investing in the education of their wards.
He urged them to help upgrade the road linking the school to improve accessibility.
Established in 2000, the school has been performing well in the Basic Education Certificate Examination.
