According to reports, the articulated truck was attempting to overtake the tipper truck on a sharp curve when the fully loaded sprinter van, travelling from Accra to Takoradi, crashed into them.

An eyewitness who spoke to Adom News claimed to have seen six victims on the spot that he believed were dead.

Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service from Cape Coast and the Ghana Police Service were at the scene to evacuate the victims and clear the road.

“While travelling from Cape Coast to Takoradi, near a curve by a school, two vehicles were approaching from Takoradi. One of the cars was delayed, prompting an articulated truck to attempt an overtaking. Simultaneously, a sprinter van was also trying to overtake. Both vehicles lost control in the curve and collided” Anderson narrated.

He said both the deceased and injured persons were transported to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.

While the number of casualties is sketchy, Joy News’ Eric Asante who visited the mortuary, reports that mortuary attendants put the death toll at 10, whereas at the hospital’s emergency unit, Dr Papa Kojo Mbroh, the Head of the Emergency Unit confirmed four more casualties, bringing the number to 14.

The deceased includes a baby. According to Eric Asante, he could count nearly ten survivors as well.

He said the sprinter bus was en route to Takoradi from Mumford in the Gomoa West District of the Central Region.

He added that the occupants of the sprinter bus, mainly fish mongers and fishermen, were headed for the Sekondi Fishing Habour when the accident occurred.
