The Director General of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Nana Agyemang Prempeh, has been praised for his leadership and dedication during a 4-day working tour of the Northern Region.

The tour aimed at sensitizing communities and enhancing disaster preparedness ahead of this year’s anticipated Bagre Dam spillage from Burkina Faso.

During his tour, Nana Prempeh visited several traditional leaders, including Nayiri Naa Shariga Mahama, Overlord of Dagbon Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama, Tong-Raan Kugbilalsong Nanlebetang, Paramount Chief of Tongo, and Chief Emmanuel Ayahiba of Sapeliga.

At the Gbewa Palace in Yendi, Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama commended the NADMO boss for his consistent involvement in ensuring the safety of communities affected by the annual Bagre Dam spillage. He applauded Hon. Prempeh’s efforts and also acknowledged President Akufo-Addo for appointing him to lead NADMO.

“You are a good leader. Every year, you are on the ground with us. I commend President Akufo-Addo for appointing you,” Yaa Naa stated.

Hon. Prempeh’s tour also included engaging with key stakeholders at STEM Senior High School in Kpasemkpe. There, he emphasized the importance of preparation and response strategies to mitigate the potential impacts of the Bagre Dam spillage, which has historically led to flooding in downstream communities.

He also met with the Northern Regional Minister, Dr. Ben Hafiz, and the Regional Security Council to address pressing security concerns related to the spillage.

In the Upper East Region, Hon. Prempeh visited Bawku West District’s Chief Executive, Hon. Anania Daniel Atampuba, and interacted with residents of nearby communities to hear their concerns ahead of the spillage.

In Walewale, the NADMO Director General worked with the organization’s Operations, Search, and Rescue team to assess preparedness levels and optimize response strategies.

His final stop was a staff durbar in Tamale, where he encouraged teamwork and open dialogue as the organization gears up for this year’s operations.

Nana Prempeh reaffirmed NADMO’s commitment to disaster prevention and management, stressing the significance of collaboration with traditional leaders, stakeholders, and the communities affected by the Bagre Dam spillage.

“We are here to listen and work together. Preparedness and swift response are key to preventing disasters, and it is important that we continue building strong relationships with all stakeholders, especially our traditional leaders, to achieve this goal,” he said.

The visit is part of NADMO’s ongoing efforts to enhance disaster preparedness and ensure the safety of communities in the Northern Region and beyond.
