In a landmark achievement that underscores the growing influence and leadership of women in Ghana, the Indigenous Women Empowerment Network (IWEN) has congratulated Mrs Efua Ghartey on her election as the President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA).

“Mrs Ghartey’s election marks a significant milestone, as she becomes the first woman to hold this prestigious position in the Association’s history. Her election is worthy because of her over two decades of experience in the legal field,” the Network stated.

“She is a vocal advocate for justice, equality, and the empowerment of marginalised communities and her election is a testament to her unwavering dedication, exceptional legal acumen, and her commitment to advancing the rights of all Ghanaians, particularly women and indigenous populations,” it stated.

In a statement issued and signed by Celestina Maame Esi Andoh, the Executive Director of IWEN, and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) it said the Network was dedicated to promoting the rights and leadership of indigenous women in the country.

It congratulated Mrs Ghartey for the new position highlighting the significance of her achievement for women across the nation.

“Efua Ghartey’s election as the President of the Ghana Bar Association is a monumental step forward for gender equality and the empowerment of women in Ghana”.

Her leadership and vision would undoubtedly inspire countless women and girls to pursue their dreams and break barriers in their respective field, saying her election came at a crucial time when the legal profession in Ghana was undergoing significant transformation, with increasing calls for greater inclusivity and representation, it said.

The statement stressed that Mrs Ghartey’s presidency was expected to bring fresh perspectives and innovative approaches to addressing the challenges facing the legal community and the broader society.

The Network said it looked forward to collaborating with Mrs Ghartey and the GBA to further the cause of indigenous women’s rights and to promote legal reforms that benefited all Ghanaians.

It added that IWEN remained committed to supporting initiatives that empowered women and enhanced their participation in leadership roles across various sectors, saying as Ghana celebrated this historic achievement, Mrs Ghartey’s election served as a powerful reminder of the potential and resilience of women leaders.
