The Electoral Commission (EC) has extended a formal invitation to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for a meeting aimed at engaging in dialogue over some concerns the party raised regarding the voters register for the upcoming December 7 general elections.

Deputy Chairperson of the EC, Dr. Eric Bossman Asare, underscored the need for dialogue and collaboration between the Commission and political parties to resolve any existing issues and ensure a smooth electoral process.

Dr. Bossman Asare underscored that constructive dialogue remains the most effective way to address any differences and concerns raised about the electoral roll.

In an engagement with the media, Dr. Asare said the NDC should engage directly with the EC if they have concerns about the electoral register or any other aspect of the upcoming elections instead of resorting to its nationwide protest today, September 17.

Dr. Asare added that while public demonstrations or protests are a legitimate form of expressing discontent, they should not be seen as the end goal if the real objective of the NDC’s protest is to improve the electoral process.

“We think that what will change something is the discussion table. We coming together, although we concede that political parties are some things which are entrenched in our laws, individuals can come together and demonstrate, and express concerns as far as they have certain things to express concerns about.

“So that one is not a problem to us. But we think that if the objective of the NDC is a solution to have a credible register, a robust register entering into the 2024 elections, we believe that they must be willing to come to the discussion table.
