The Minority in Parliament has fingered the government and Ghana Gas Company in a plot to sign a $800 million contract for gas processing without parliamentary approval.

Ranking member on the Energy Committee of Parliament, John Jinapor said the contract tends to cause judgment debt. He cautioned the Chief Executive of the Ghana Gas Company to desist from signing it.

“On behalf of the Minority, on behalf of the NDC, let me send a very firm and stern warning to the Chief Executive of Ghana Gas. Don’t allow politicians to use you for their selfish, parochial interests and gains. This contract has the tendency and high probability of causing serious judgment debt, ” he cautioned.

John Jinapor said the government, realising that they will lose the December elections, is determined to use whatever means possible to compel the CEO of the Ghana Gas Company to execute the contract.

“As we speak, the government of Ghana and Ghana Gas have not secured a firm commitment on the supply of raw gas for processing by this entity that they want to sign a contract with,” he stated.

Mr Jinapor charged the CEO of Ghana Gas to make available all the documents to Parliament, indicating he has the ”express instruction from the Minority Leader to initiate processes to call for a full-scale parliamentary enquiry”.

The Yapei Kusawgu MP further claimed that there is currently load shedding ongoing and GRIDCO has been cautioned not to inform customers.

He stressed that the energy sector is collapsing and indicated the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia-led government intends to hand over a broken, dilapidated and ageing energy sector to the Mahama administration.
