A group calling itself ‘Well-Meaning Citizens of Kwahu’ has issued a strong denial in response to recent allegations of extortion and improper conduct against Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, Kwahuhene and Board Chairman of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB).

The group dismissed the claims as baseless and an attempt to tarnish the traditional leader’s reputation.

The allegations were made by a businessman, Collins Darkwah Aboagye, who claims that Daasebre, in his role as ADB Board Chairman, facilitated a loan of GH¢12 million for his company, Prahbat.

Aboagye further alleges that Daasebre requested a personal loan of GH¢2 million, which he says remains unpaid, prompting suggestions of misconduct.

However, a statement from the Well-Meaning Citizens Of Kwahu refutes these allegations, insisting that Daasebre acted with integrity.

The statement clarified that the loan between Daasebre and Collins was a personal arrangement, unrelated to his official duties at ADB.

“There is no evidence to suggest that Daasebre demanded or coerced Collins into granting him a personal loan.  The loan was given voluntarily, and the accusation of extortion is entirely unfounded,” the statement read.

The group also stressed that despite the gravity of the extortion allegation, the Bank of Ghana has not referred the matter for criminal investigation, raising concerns about the true intent behind the accusations. Instead, the BoG requested Daasebre’s resignation as ADB Board Chairman.

The statement emphasized that Daasebre, as Board Chairman, does not have direct involvement in loan approvals, which are handled by the bank’s Credit Committee and management.

“The Board Chairman’s role is not to manage day-to-day banking operations, and there is no evidence to suggest that Daasebre influenced the approval of Collins’ loan in any improper manner,” the statement added.

Addressing the potential motives behind the claims, the statement expressed concern that the allegations might be aimed at damaging the reputation of Daasebre, a respected Chartered Accountant and Financial Analyst.

“This entire episode seems to be an attempt to undermine the credibility and integrity of Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, who has served Kwahu and Ghana with distinction,” the statement said.

Well-Meaning Citizens of Kwahu urged all parties involved to pursue the matter with fairness and transparency.

They also called on the public to be sceptical about the accusations citing Daasebre’s long-standing dedication to the development of Kwahu and the nation.

“We stand united behind Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II and reject these unfounded allegations. The truth will prevail,” the statement said.
