The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has issued a stern warning against the unauthorized use of military-pattern uniforms and accoutrements during demonstrations in the country.

In a statement on Monday, October 14, GAF expressed concerns over the growing trend of individuals wearing unapproved military uniforms while providing security for public figures.

This practice, according to GAF has been on the rise despite previous warnings, noting that some individuals also wear these uniforms around illegal mining areas.

GAF emphasized that this unauthorized use of military uniforms poses a significant security risk and has the potential to tarnish the image of the military.

“The attention of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has been drawn to the unauthorized and unlawful use of military-pattern uniforms and accoutrements by protesters during demonstrations, as well as by individuals providing security for some public figures.

“GAF has also noted with dismay similar illegal acts among persons operating in illegal mining areas (Galamsey sites) and some political activists. Despite ongoing education and warnings, this concerning trend appears to be increasing.”

GAF threatened to arrest people who violate the regulations to face the full rigour of the law, urging the public to report any suspicious activities involving unauthorised military attire.

“In light of the security implications of these illegal acts, GAF will henceforth take decisive actions, including, the arrest of persons who violate these regulations to face the full rigour of the law. We also urge the public to report any suspicious activities involving unauthorised military attire.

“GAF reassures the public of its unwavering commitment to protecting citizens and maintaining the territorial integrity of Ghana. As the country approaches the 2024 general elections, the cooperation of all citizens is essential in upholding peace and security.”
