According to a police statement, their son, Elrad Salifu Amoako, was driving a Jaguar SUV with registration number GN 7801-20 when he collided with a 4×4 Acura vehicle on Mensah Wood Street in East Legon.

The collision caused both vehicles to catch fire. Two of the five occupants in the Acura, identified as 12-year-olds Justine Agbenu and Maame Dwomoh, tragically lost their lives.

“Three of the victims were rescued, but unfortunately, we lost two young girls. This is a tragic incident, and we are leaving no stone unturned to establish the full facts,” the statement said.

The investigation revealed that Elrad, who was with one other occupant in the Jaguar, also sustained injuries and remains hospitalized. The rescued victims from the Acura, two of whom suffered minor injuries, have been discharged. One remains under medical care.

The police disclosed they have received support from the top echelons of the force.

“A team from the Police Management Board, led by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, visited the bereaved family and the injured at the hospital to offer comfort,” the statement added.

As the investigation continues, the police have assured the public that they are committed to uncovering the full details of the tragic accident and delivering justice for the affected families.
