The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that they are actively pursuing the perpetrator involved in a shooting incident that occurred during political campaign activities in the Agona West Constituency on the evening of Sunday, October 27, 2024.
The incident left four individuals injured. According to police reports, two of the victims were treated for their injuries and discharged, while the remaining two are still hospitalized and receiving medical care.
The shooting took place when supporters of Chris Arthur, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary hopeful, were returning from a campaign launch in Otinkorang, a community within Agona West.
As they crossed paths with supporters of Cynthia Morrison, who were engaged in a mini-rally at Agona Nyankrom, gunfire erupted.
Haruna Rashid, the campaign manager for Chris Arthur, was struck by a bullet in the ribs and rushed to Agona Swedru Government Hospital. Several others sustained minor injuries during the ensuing chaos.
Cynthia Morrison, in a statement following the incident, expressed her concern and clarified that she was unaware of the gunfire at the time, stating, “I didn’t hear it myself and only learned of the incident afterward.”
In a statement released on Monday, October 28, 2024, the police confirmed their increased presence in the area and are intensifying efforts to locate the shooter.
“The police have been actively working on the case throughout Sunday night when the incident happened and are closing in on the perpetrator to get him arrested to face justice,” a police statement read.
The police’s swift response underscores their commitment to maintaining safety and order in the community during this politically charged period.
