The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) and Mr Yves Hanson-Nortey, the Tema Central Member of Parliament (MP), have handed over a three-classroom block to the Tema Methodist Day Senior High School (MEDASS).

The building, which is furnished with the needed dual desks, was funded with the MP’s Common Fund, which is disbursed by the assembly.

Mr Hanson-Nortey said he had supported the educational sector of Tema as he believed education should be a priority just as it was for the governing party.

He stated that the structure was one of the 26 educational infrastructures he had provided in Tema Central, revealing that others included the provision of library centres, classroom blocks, and furniture to aid teaching and learning.

He urged the management and students of MEDASS to maintain the structure and the furniture to serve as motivation for others to come to their aid.

Mr Yohane Amarh Ashitey, the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, said education adds value to the lives of people, indicating that without education some of them would not have attained the positions they currently hold.

He said it was why government, and the assembly were using a chunk of their revenue to support the educational sector, including the implementation of the free senior high school.

Mr Ashitey urged management of the school and other educational institutions in the metropolis to contact the assembly for assistants needed to improve the educational sector.

Mr Charles Forson, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Tema Central, called on corporate organisations to partner educational institutions to get them the needed infrastructure instead of depending solely on the government.

Mr Forson gave the assurance that when voted as the MP, he would push for the school to be given boarding status to get more students to choose it as their preferred school.

Mrs Juliana N. Frimpong, the Headteacher of Tema Methodist Day SHS, commended the MP and the TMA for the structure, appealing however that future developments should be multi-story buildings as the school lacks enough land.

She also appealed for the provision of a science laboratory to boost students’ interest in reading the cause in the school, revealing that they currently have only one science class due to limited science infrastructure.
