The Coalition of Rotational Nurses and Midwives has served notice to the government of its intention to embark on strike action to back demand for unpaid allowances.

According to the Coalition, this is a result of the unbearable hardship members are forced to endure over the months and the fact that there has not been any communication stipulating date for the payment of their allowances.

The Coalition, in a statement, stated that since the beginning of the mandatory one-year national service in February 2021, no payment has been made to members.

It warned that effect Friday 1st October 2021, if the Ministry of Health fails to do the needful, members of the Coalition across the country would be compelled to abandoned work until their demands are addressed.

Read the text of the full statement below:

We humbly write to your Office to express our displeasure with our unpaid allowances since the beginning of our mandatory one-year national service in February, 2021.

We and midwives on rotations in the various hospitals nationwide have come to a conclusion to vacate post and lay down our working tools effective 1st October 2021.

This is as a result of the unbearable hardship over the months and there have not been any communications to us stipulating the date and month our allowances will be paid.

It is for this reason we want to draw the attention of your office to a possible strike and laying down of working tools on the above-stated date.

We hope this letter finds you well off which you can count on our cooperation.

In anticipation of reading favourably from you, we remain yours sincerely.

Thank you.
