The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Churches (GPCC) has urged Ghanaians to act as instruments of peace rather than conflict as the country approaches the upcoming elections.

The GPCC emphasized that peaceful coexistence is vital for the nation’s stability and progress, urging citizens to engage in respectful dialogue and to reject all forms of violence and divisive language before, during, and after the electoral period.

Apostle Immanuel Tettey, General Secretary of the GPCC, made the call at a press conference in Accra on Thursday, ahead of the launch of a Peace Campaign scheduled for Sunday, November 3, at the State House.

The event was organised in collaboration with the Christian Council of Ghana, the National Association of Charismatic Christian Churches, and the Office of the Chief Imam.

The press conference featured prominent clergymen, including Apostle Eric Kwabena Nyamekye, Chairman of the Church of Pentecost and President of GPCC; Rev. Dr. Francis Sey, General Overseer of the Foursquare Gospel Church, and Treasurer of GPCC; and Rt. Rev. Prosper Dzomeku, Presiding Bishop of the Global Evangelical Church and Council Member of GPCC.

Addressing the media, Apostle Tettey said that despite the intensity of this year’s elections, Ghana must uphold its reputation as a peaceful and democratic nation.

He noted that the election was particularly significant, as it marked the first time a sitting Vice President and a former President would contest against each other.

That dynamic, along with other factors, Apostle Tettey noted, made the contest crucial for both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He urged all parties to prioritize peace and unity in their quest for victory.

These factors make the contest for the NPP and the NDC crucial. It is very important for them, and they would want to do everything to make sure that they achieve their purposes.

“It is within this light that we have come together to work towards maintaining the peace,” he said.

Apostle Tettey provided details about the upcoming campaign launch, which would be on the theme “Let Peace Prevail,” stating that all political parties and independent presidential aspirants would be present to commit to maintaining peace.

He mentioned that beyond the launch, a series of activities would follow, including a peace walk, prayer sessions, and press engagements aimed at fostering a peaceful electoral environment.
