The National Democratic Congress (NDC) caucus has affirmed its intention to occupy the majority seats when Parliament reconvenes, following the Speaker’s recognition of the side as the majority party.
NDC parliamentary leaders expressed their commitment to supporting government initiatives that benefit Ghanaians, while also urging the New Patriotic Party (NPP) minority to focus on serving the country.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, November 6 following a media engagement by the Speaker of Parliament, ‘Majoirty Whip, Kwame Governs Agbodza emphasized that the party’s priority is to conduct parliamentary business that serves the public interest.
He said, “If they bring businesses that will benefit Ghanaians, we are ready to support them. But we are not going to use our Majority in Parliament to further burden Ghanaians,” stressing the NDC’s commitment to alleviating the hardships many Ghanaians face.
Kwame Agbodza also reassured the public of their dedication to peaceful, cooperative governance.
“We are here to serve Ghanaians and that is why we will compromise and ensure the government is involved, he added.”
He pointed to a history of bipartisan support, citing examples such as approving government ministers and working on bipartisan committees.
However, the Chief Whip expressed caution about any legislative measures that could exacerbate economic difficulties.
According to him, the Majority NDC would not tolerate any bill that is intended to deepen the hardship on the people of this country, reiterating the party’s focus on public welfare over partisan interests.
He encouraged the minority NPP to join them in addressing national concerns instead of focusing on political power dynamics.
“If you love Ghana, come and let’s do business on the floor with your new minority status, with our new majority status, which will support you,” he stated.
