He said schools must train students to be morally excellent, instilling in them virtues of self-discipline, hard work, self-dignity, trustworthiness, benevolence, integrity, and leadership and discernment.

Speaking at the 148th anniversary of the Mfantsipim School, his alma mater, Mr Agyarko cautioned that competence without moral character could be dangerous adding that, “There is nothing more dangerous than a learned thief.”

He underscored the fast pace at which the world was developing and entreated the students to learn something new every day to fully prepare themselves for the uncertainties.

He further reminded them that they would face stiffer competition from their contemporaries across the globe with the advancement of technology, for which reason they must work hard to distinguish themselves.

“Real learning begins when school days end. As students, you’re being given the basic equipment and tools to help you work in a confused and multifaceted world,” he noted.

The former minister urged his alma mater and all other schools to leverage their alumni to bridge the gap between industry and academia.
