As of 0500 hours on Saturday, the Ghana News Agency (GNA) observed some men and women as well as the youth who have converged at Akatsi Court Hall A and B, a Polling Centre among the 134 Polling Centres within the Municipality.

Mr Walter Agbo, a retired judicial staff, who appeared at the centre at 0430 hours, explained to the GNA that today’s exercise remained a special one and that was why he decided to move early to cast his ballot.

Some women, who are petty traders and farmers, also explained that they desired to participate in the national exercise for an all-inclusive decision-making process.

However, the GNA observed that officials from the Electoral Commission (EC) were busily arranging their equipment in the presence of the various party agents and the security for a smooth start of the voting process.

Mrs Akorfa Buabasah Asamoah, the Akatsi South Municipal Director of the EC, in an early engagement, disclosed to the GNA that their outfit had distributed all the necessary gadgets and materials to the various Polling Centres for the exercise to begin.

She revealed that a total of 53, 582 eligible voters are expected to exercise their franchise before the end of polls today at 1700 hours.

On security preparations, Chief Superintendent Isaac Baah, the Akatsi South Municipal Police Commander, told the GNA that they have over 180 security officers tasked to ensure a peaceful exercise across the Municipality.

“There will be two Police Patrol Teams and officers stationed at every centre within our area. We call on every individual to cooperate with the officers and officials for a smooth exercise,” he said.

The Akatsi South Municipality has so far, recorded a calm atmosphere ahead of the commencement of the voting exercise to elect their Parliamentary and Presidential candidates to lead them for the next four years.

Mr Ocloo Mawuli Egos, a 46-year-old Bsc Degree holder in Procurement and Supply Chain Management, would face Mr Bernard Ahiafor, a 51-year-old incumbent NDC Member of Parliament, who is a Barrister and Solicitor at Law together with Mr Donald Brown Dzameshie, a 34-year-old businessman.
