The Electoral Commission (EC) says officials who violate the Commission’s electoral laws and processes in the ongoing General Election would be prosecuted.
A statement issued and signed by Mr Samuel Tettey, Deputy EC Chairperson in charge of operations, said the Commission would not shield any election official who misconducted themselves during the elections.
The EC confirmed that a Ballot Issuer at the Ampesika-Bayere Polling Station in the Kintampo South Constituency in the Bono East Region, tore off the head of the Presidential Candidate of the New Patriot Party while issuing 15 ballot papers to voters.
The Commission expressed readiness to fully cooperate with the Police to get to the bottom of the matter.
“We urge the public to remain calm and report any incident to the Police or call the Commission on its Toll-Free Number 0800 324 324,” the EC said.
The EC recruited close to 210, 000 temporary electoral officers to supervise the elections in more than 40,000 polling stations across the country.
A total 18, 774,159 eligible voters are expected to cast their ballots to choose a President and 276 Members of Parliament.
