Ahmed Ibrahim, the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Banda and a representative of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has decisively retained his seat in the 2024 general elections.
With a commanding 9,150 votes, he triumphed over his nearest rival, Joe Danquah of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who garnered 8,010 votes.
An alumnus of the University of Ghana, Mr. Ibrahim holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Philosophy, awarded in 2001. Before making his mark in politics, he demonstrated his leadership skills as the Chief Executive Officer of Flamingo Publications (Ghana) Limited.
Mr. Ibrahim’s political journey began in 2009 after winning his constituency’s 2008 Ghanaian general election. He was sworn into the 5th Parliament of the 4th Republic on January 7, 2009. He successfully defended his seat in 2013, defeating Joe Danquah in a closely contested election.
In 2015, Mr. Ibrahim won the NDC parliamentary primaries for the Banda constituency in the Bono Region and secured his seat in the 2016 general elections. He polled 6,167 votes, 52.03%, against his opponent’s 5,660 votes, representing 47.76%.
He is a Christian, married, and has one child. His victory marks yet another milestone in a political career spanning over a decade, as he continues to represent the Banda constituency in Parliament.
