Mr George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South, has retained his seat, extending his 12-year incumbency.

In what was expected to be his stiffest contest, Mr Ricketts-Hagan polled 21,277 to beat his three contenders decisively in an unprecedented fashion.

His main contender, Mr Ernest Arthur, the Mayor of Cape Coast, garnered 14,163 votes with Mr Isaac Manu and Mr Perry Mensah polling 223 and 1,735 votes respectively.

Speaking to the media after he was declared winner, Mr Ricketts-Hagan described the magnitude of his victory as ‘astronomical’ and ‘astonishing’ even though he was confident of winning.

“People will say what they have to say but at the end of the day, it is what you do for them that counts.  Mine is to do a job and I’ll do it to the best of my ability,” he stated.

“In politics, they judge through election and when you do a good job for the people, they will reward you,” he added.

He said he and his government were committed to the 24-hour economy policy to transform the economy, stressing that it was not just a campaign promise.

He reiterated his pledge to construct a factory in the constituency to create jobs and drive the local economy.

“The factory will certainly come before I depart the scene no matter how long it takes and President Mahama’s 24-hour economy, will employ three times the original number,” he further intimated.
