Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, the National Chief Imam, paid a courtesy call on President-elect John Dramani Mahama in Accra to congratulate him on his victory in the December 7 polls.

The Chief Imam, who was accompanied by a delegation of Moslem leaders and chiefs, wished the President-elect well as he prepares to return to the Jubilee House.

President-elect Mahama said the incoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration would not misuse its overwhelming Parliamentary Majority and that it would consult the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on national issues.

“We will not misuse the Majority we have in Parliament. We will always consult the Minority,” he said.

He noted that the Chief Imam had always visited him at both election victory and losses since 2009 when he became Vice President.

He said they would constitute a committee to start implementation of the Muslims Manifesto points in the NDC’s manifesto.

He told the Chief Imam that the Presidential Transition Team had been commissioned, and that Ghanaians were praying for a peaceful election, and God had been gracious to them.

The President-elect reiterated that upon his assumption of Office, he would investigate the deaths that occurred through electoral violence during the 2024 election, so that nobody would have the impetus to commit such crimes in future.

“We will investigate the Ayawaso West Wuogon violence, the 2020 election killings will be investigated and appropriate compensation given to the victims and the culprits punished,” he stated.

The President-elect appealed to the youth to channel their anger to helping build the country and move forward rather than attacking government officials and looting state.
