Dr Peter Asare-Nuamah, Lecturer at the University of Environment and Sustainable Development at Somanya, who disclosed this said pragmatic and robust measures must be taken to extensively restructure the party.

This, he said was necessary to avoid the repetition of the painful and humiliating defeat of the party in subsequent elections.

Dr Asare-Nuamah, who is also an Author, was speaking to the Ghana News Agency, on the abysmal performance of the NPP in the recent elections and the way forward.

He said more must be done by the leadership of the party for it to bounce back.

He stressed the need for unity in the party, adding that, unity was the only way to bring back relinquished party faithful.

Dr Asare-Nuamah stressed the need for the party to abolish the imposition of candidates on the electorates from constituency to the national levels.

He said the leadership must demonstrate true commitment and representation while Members of Parliament (MP) needed to be responsive to the people.

The neglect of the constituencies by some Members of Parliament was becoming the order of the day in the party, adding that, effective representation of the people was the surest way to continuously gain the vote of the people

“It was about time the party abolished the monetisation of primaries and delegate system.

This had been a great challenge that had affected the party’s fortunes,” he said.

He called for an effective mechanism for the efficient use of the District Assembly Common Fund and its accountability to ensure transparency in governance.

Dr Asare -Nuamah, who is also a researcher, suggested a robust research and investigation on the land slide loss of the party to identify specific factors that accounted for the loss.

Also, the party’s research team must be resourced and restructured to deliver credible information.

He said the experienced researchers from the universities could be contacted to assist in their subsequent research activities for accurate results.

Dr Asare -Nuamah, said that the poor performance of the party was a testament of the extent of the challenges in the party.

He called on the rank and file of the NPP to ensure that the interest of the people came first in governance from the local to the national level.
