He said the creation of a new region covering administrative districts, including Bawku Municipal, Bawku West, Garu, Binduri, Tempane, and Pusiga, would not only propel development in the area of economic activities but would also promote peace and unity.

“I further wish to call on the new government to see to the completion of the Bolgatanga-Pulmakom Road and the Tamne Dam,” he added.

The Overlord made the call when he addressed celebrants at this year’s Samanpiid festival in Bawku.

The festival also coincided with the 40th anniversary of the reign of Naba Azoka II as the Overlord of the Kusaug Traditional Area in Bawku.

It was held on the theme: “40 years of selfless leadership, consolidating the peace, unity and development of Kusaug.”

He said the prolonged conflict in the area had impacted negatively on the entire community as it faced unique socio-economic and development challenges, and it was important the people of Kusaug ironed out their differences.

“I call on all people of Kusaug, regardless of geographical location, ethnicity, religion, and political persuasions, to stand united, focusing on things that unite us more than what divides us.

“Together we can make Kusaug the preferred destination in the region and Ghana at large,” he said.

He commended the farmers for working tirelessly in contributing to the food basket of the area and the country at large despite their unique challenges.

“I wish to extend a special thanks to our security services, who have worked tirelessly to ensure the protection of lives and property in Bawku, and the media, who have, over the period of the conflict, stood firm by risking their lives to share news about Bawku with Ghanaians and the world as a whole,” he added.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, in a speech delivered on his behalf, said maintaining peace in Bawku for socio-economic development had been his priority and his government remained committed until January 7, 2025.

He noted that the presence of the security personnel in the area and the ban on motor riding, among other measures, were only a temporary measure, but lasting peace could only be attained when the people integrated and treated each other as brothers and sisters.

“Nobody can bring peace to Bawku except you yourselves. I also appeal to all those who fled the area to consider returning as normalcy is gradually returning to Bawku,” he added.
