Accra prepares for Mahama’s presidential inauguration: Traffic diversions and press details

The Ministry of Information has confirmed that preparations for the presidential inauguration of President-elect, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, scheduled for Tuesday, January 7, 2025, are on track.

The event, set to take place in Accra, will host a significant number of international dignitaries and feature temporary road closures to ensure smooth proceedings.

The inauguration has drawn interest from the global community, with confirmations from:

  • 21 Heads of State from Africa and beyond.
  • 3 Vice Presidents.
  • 4 Ministers.
  • 24 Envoys.

The Ministry expressed gratitude for the solidarity shown and looks forward to welcoming the distinguished guests.

Centralized Live Production

To ensure a high-quality broadcast, the event will be centrally produced. Media houses requiring live feeds must meet specific Internet requirements:

  • Clean feed: Minimum 4 Mbps (RTMP link provided by the Ministry).
  • Feed with graphics: Minimum 4 Mbps (RTMP link provided by the Ministry).
Temporary Road Closures and Diversions

To facilitate security and ease of movement for dignitaries, several roads in Accra will be temporarily closed or diverted between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM on January 7, 2025.

Road Closures:

Parliament House Area:

  • Osu Traffic Light to Parliament House.
  • AU Roundabout and surrounding access roads.
  • Road from Osu Cemetery to Parliament (open only to Parliamentarians and staff).

Independence Square:

  • 28th February Road from CEPS Headquarters to Castle Road Junction.
  • Lokko Street at Osu Cemetery Traffic Light.
  • Castle Road from AU Circle to Osu Cemetery.

Starlet 91 Road will also be closed at the Ministries Traffic Light Intersection.

Traffic Diversions:

  • Traffic from La, Labone, and Osu to the Central Business District will be diverted through Salem Avenue and Oxford Street.
  • Motorists from John Evans Atta Mills High Street to Black Star Square will be rerouted via Liberia Road at CEPS Headquarters.
  • Vehicles on Lokko Street heading to Castle Road will use Ajumaku Street and Oxford Street.
  • Traffic from AU Circle to Castle Road will be redirected to Abdul Diouf and King Hassan Roads.
Public Advisory

Motorists are urged to follow traffic directives from security personnel and use alternative routes where possible. The Ministry apologized for any inconvenience caused and appealed for public cooperation to ensure a smooth and successful inauguration ceremony.

This historic event is expected to not only celebrate Ghana’s democratic achievements but also showcase the nation’s hospitality on the international stage.
