The Northern Ghana Youth for Development (NGY4D), a group made up of five regional youth networks, has proposed the institution of an annual engagement by President John Dramani Mahama, dubbed: “Time with the President”.
The yearly event would provide an opportunity for young people to give constructive feedback to the Government on the delivery of its manifesto promises, especially to the youth.
The NGY4D said the engagement would also make the youth feel inclusive in the governance process to advance the democracy of the country.
A statement issued by the NGY4D, signed by its Convenor, Mr Mohammed Inusah, and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Tamale, urged the President is to ensure that young people were listened to, and had employment opportunities through the 24-hour economy initiative.
The statement was to congratulate President Mahama on his return to power and Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang for making history as the first female Vice President of Ghana.
“Your victory represents the victory for the youth, who have been struggling in the formal and informal sectors for decent jobs.Your inaugural speech was not only inspiring for the youth but gives much deeper hope founded on trust,” it said.
“Mr President, your emphatic re-election as the President of our homeland is a clear testimony of your unique leadership and the trust Ghanaian youth have in you.”
“Your vision is our vision, and we are prepared to walk along with you on this journey to bring prosperity to all Ghanaians. We believe in you, and you have our support to deliver the Ghana we all want.”
The statement urged the President to ensure that his administration reflected the diversity and inclusiveness that the country aspired to achieve by considering young people for appointments to bring fresh ideas and innovative solutions to governance.
It also urged the President to ensure adequate representation of women in leadership positions to further advance gender equality and fulfill the promise of the Affirmative Action Act.
The citizenry, it said, must unite behind the government, no matter their political, ethnic, and regional differences, to ensure national progress.
