The GRA Royal Ladies Hockey Team, the defending champions of the African Club Hockey Championship, edged out Women’s Premier League side Hasaacas Ladies to win the award.

Speaking to GNA Sports on the sidelines of the awards ceremony, Elizabeth Opoku, captain of the GRA Royal Ladies Hockey Team, expressed excitement about winning the award.

Opoku, who also won Female Hockey Player of the Year, applauded her colleagues’ efforts, particularly after finishing first in the Greater Accra Hockey League last year.

“We feel very honoured to win this award for the first time because we have really worked hard for it over the previous years.

“Also, it was my fourth time winning the female hockey player of the year, and I want to thank SWAG for recognising my hard work, and this will motivate me to do better for both club and country,” she said.

Madam Ida Marmon-Halm, coach of the GRA Royal Ladies Hockey Team, gave credit to her ladies for putting in the hard work and fully deserved this recognition.

“I am very proud of the team, and I always give credit to the ladies. We are very well prepared for the African championship, and all eyes will be on us in Egypt, but we are fully motivated to make Ghana proud,” she said.

Mr. Ebenezer Sarpong, Head of Sports at GRA, congratulated the ladies on their triumph and believes this would motivate them to win more laurels in the future.

“We are very delighted at GRA and especially for the ladies who won the award. It has been a long year for them, and I think they truly deserve winning female club of the year.

“The management of GRA has supported the team as they prepare to defend the African title in Egypt, and we are hopeful that they will bring home the cup,” he said.
