The Appointments Committee of Parliament has summoned social media activist, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, to appear before it on Wednesday, January 29, to provide evidence to substantiate an allegation he made on social media.
In a post on his X handle, Mr. Barker-Vormawor accused the committee members of accepting bribes from nominees in exchange for their approval.
The Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Bernard Ahiafor, however, firmly denied the claims, describing them as baseless.
On Tuesday, January 28 just before the vetting of the Minister for Defence Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Mr. Ahiafor stated that neither he nor any committee members have engaged in such practices.
He directed the Clerk of the Committee to formally invite Mr. Barker-Vormawor to appear before the committee on Wednesday, January 29, to provide evidence to substantiate his allegations.
He declared, “So, I am directing the Clerk to the Committee to invite him to appear before the committee tomorrow [Wednesday] to substantiate his claims, or we will apply the necessary law.”
Following the summons, Barker-Vormawor took to his X account to issue a response. He wrote, “This is how a Democracy improves. I look forward to appearing before the Appointments Committee tomorrow. Thank You.”
