The Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) has extended its congratulations to Felix Kwakye Ofosu on his appointment as the Minister of State responsible for Government Communications and Shamima Muslim as the Deputy Government Spokesperson.
PRINPAG noted that both individuals have a strong track record of engaging with journalists and are well-positioned to address challenges facing the media industry.
PRINPAG, in a statement issued on Tuesday, expressed confidence in the appointees’ ability to enhance government-media relations.
“The records of Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu and Madam Shamima Muslim in dealing with journalists are well known. We are confident that their vast experience will help foster transparency, accountability, and effective engagement with the media,” the statement read.
The Association urged the newly appointed officials to champion policies that support press freedom and ensure journalists can operate without fear or intimidation.
PRINPAG assured that as an organization representing the interests of newspapers and online news publishers across the country; it is ready to work closely with the Government Communications team.
“We encourage them to welcome constructive criticisms and promote an open, accessible, and responsive communication system,” the statement said.
PRINPAG also called on the government to: Ensure its communication team remains accessible to journalists and also foster a culture of responsiveness to media inquiries.
The Association appealed for support initiatives that enhance the welfare and safety of journalists and for opportunities for capacity building and professional development in the media sector.
PRINPAG reaffirmed its commitment to working with the government to promote a free, responsible, and vibrant press in Ghana.
“We look forward to a fruitful collaboration that will strengthen the media landscape and uphold the principles of press freedom,” the statement added.
