President Mahama appoints Dr Sofo Tanko Rashid Computer Acting CEO of GIFEC

President John Dramani Mahama, has appointed Dr Sofo Tanko Rashid Computer, as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC).

Dr Computer confirmed this in a telephone interview with the Ghana News Agency in Accra.

He is supposed to use his vast experience and huge expertise in governance and information technology to transform GIFEC.

Dr Computer until his appointment, was the Deputy National Director of Elections and Information Technology (IT) of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He was the Head of recruitment, training, examination, and deployment at the National Elections Directorate of the NDC.

He also served as the Regional Director of Elections and Regional Treasurer of NDC for the Northern region.

In addition, he has served as the NDC’s Collation Agent in all bye- elections.

Dr Computer holds a PhD in Public Administration, MSc in Criminal Justice, MSc in Public Administration, and B.Ed in Arts, among others.

His working experience include Regional Director of Youth Employment Agency, Regional Manager of National Health Insurance Agency, Lecturer, Tamale College of Education, Assistant Examiner, University of Cape Coast; Lecturer, Tamale Technical University and Tutor, Bimbila Senior High School (Bimbisec).

The International Telecommunication Union, a UN agency for Information and Communication Technologies has over the past 25 years promoted various initiatives to accelerate the growth of the information society and enhance the quality of life in the 21st century.

It is against this backdrop that, the Government of Ghana set up Ghana Investment Fund for Telecommunications, as an agency of the Ministry of Communications to facilitate the provision of universal access to basic telephony for the unserved and underserved communities in the country.
