The bus, with registration number GR 7501-21, departed from the ADT station at Pulukoom in the Pusiga District but broke down near Loagri, close to a police barrier.

On Friday, February 14, the driver left for Tamale to find a mechanic, leaving the bus under the care of the police, the mate, and passengers.

Eyewitnesses reported that gunmen arrived, opened fire on the passengers and police, forcing everyone to flee for cover. The attackers shot multiple people and set the bus on fire.

Initially, three people, including a toddler, were found burned to death. Another body was discovered in the charred vehicle on Saturday, February 15, raising the death toll. Additionally, one of the injured persons admitted to Walewale Hospital died the same day.

In the early hours of Sunday, February 16, two more injured victims, who had been transferred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, succumbed to their injuries.

All the deceased have been identified as Burkinabe and Togolese nationals.
