This is expected to stabilise power supply in Ghana and other nations that rely on the pipeline.

The comprehensive maintenance project, which spanned four weeks, included a range of critical tasks such as offshore pipeline cleaning, inspection, subsea valve replacements, and other vital works across multiple locations in Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria.

According to WAPCo, as part of the maintenance, pipeline laterals into Cotonou, Benin; Lomé, Togo; and Tema, Ghana were temporarily shut down.

Despite the complexities and challenges involved in maintaining such a crucial infrastructure system, WAPCo reported that the project was completed ahead of schedule and with remarkable efficiency and safety.

“We are pleased to announce the safe and successful completion of this critical maintenance work,” said a WAPCo representative.

The Managing Director of WAPCo, Michelle Burkett praised the team for their outstanding effort during the maintenance.

“I want to congratulate every member of our team for their dedication and professionalism.
This was a complex project, and your hard work, even in the face of challenges, made it a
success. While some countries experienced temporary disruptions due to the shutdown of
the laterals, our teams worked tirelessly to ensure that maintenance was carried out swiftly
and safely. The results speak for themselves, and I couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve
achieved” she said.

She added “WAPCo expresses its sincere gratitude to the governments of Benin, Ghana, Nigeria, and
Togo for their continued support. We also appreciate the efforts of the maritime and
regulatory authorities in these countries, along with our customers, shippers, gas off-takers,
host communities, shareholders, and all other stakeholders, for their valuable collaboration
and contributions to the success of the project.”

The pipeline system, which transports natural gas from Nigeria to Ghana, Togo, and Benin, plays a crucial role in powering industries, households, and infrastructure across West Africa.

WAPCo’s commitment to high-quality service and adherence to the highest safety standards was a central focus throughout the maintenance process.

With the successful conclusion of this project, gas transportation services have resumed, and WAPCo remains dedicated to ensuring the uninterrupted supply of natural gas, further solidifying its role in supporting regional energy security.

The company further expressed gratitude to its stakeholders and customers for their cooperation and understanding during the maintenance period, reaffirming its commitment to delivering safe and efficient energy solutions to the region.
