The Dormaa East District of the National Identification Authority (NIA) has registered and processed 7,874 Ghana cards between 2022 and 2024, Mr Mr Humphrey Kuupiel, the Dormaa East District Director of the NIA has said.

However, expressed worry that about 1,444 of the Ghana cards had not been collected by the applicants, saying a backlog of 458 cards were yet to be printed.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Wamfie, the district capital, Mr Kuupiel said the major problem facing the district office now was replacement of cards, worrying that the demand of card replacement among the applicants was very high and disturbing.

“Out of every 10 applicants who visit the office to lodge complaints, five of them are those who come for replacement”, he stated, saying the situation was worrying because the applicants could not provide the scheme with the right personal data they used for the registration.

“The information they give often mismatch with what we have in our system. It has been difficult for us to track their data and identity in our system to process and replace their cards”, Mr Kuupiel stated.

He said some of the applicants could also not provide their birth certificates that would enable the Authority to confirm their particulars in the system too.

Mr Kuupiel said the Authority in the district had intensified public sensitisation and awareness creation to enlighten the people more of their operations and mentioned limited space as a challenge for the authority.
