The Vice President of IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil, has called on the government to provide clarity on allegations made by the Ranking Member of Parliament on the Defence and Interior Committee, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, regarding alleged drug trafficking in the country.

Bentil believes that although the MP is basing his claims on suspicion, it would be in the nation’s best interest for both Minority and Majority Members of Parliament to collaborate and investigate the allegations fairly.

He argued that the government should furnish Rev Fordjour and the public with details concerning the movement of the accused aircraft to bring clarity to the matter.

“This is a national issue; I’m not saying he acted wrongly. What I’m advocating for is a nationalistic approach to the situation. He claims to have suspicions and credible evidence; let’s investigate. If there’s information that proves otherwise, then we can dismiss the claims. I rely on facts from the state.”

“But I am concerned because the system itself is being accused. That’s why I suggested that if our environment wasn’t so polarised along partisan lines, we could include the Minority side of Parliament and allow security agencies to carry out the investigation. Aircraft movement records are historical and detailed. Let’s disclose the data to satisfy all parties and ensure transparency,” he said while speaking on Newsfile on Saturday, April 5, 2025.

Earlier, the Assin South MP demanded a security briefing regarding two aircraft, AirMed Flight N823AM and Cavok Air Antonov An-12B, which he alleged carried cocaine and cash into the country.

This prompted President John Dramani Mahama to order a probe into the matter.
