The Minority Caucus has called on the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) and the NDC government to stop making excuses and urgently increase the producer price of cocoa.
This follows COCOBOD’s announcement on April 9, 2025, that cocoa prices would remain unchanged for the 2025/2026 season.
Speaking at a press conference held in Kumasi on Monday, April 14, 2025, the Minority Caucus’ Spokesperson and Member of Parliament for Offinso South Constituency, Isaac Yaw Opoku, expressed deep disappointment in the decision, describing it as a major setback for hardworking cocoa farmers across the country.
“We have called you here to express our concerns about our government’s failure to adjust the producer price of cocoa. As you may be aware, on the 8th of April 2025, Ghana COCOBOD issued a letter titled Cocoa Price Adjustment for the 2025/2026 Cocoa Season,” he said.
He further highlighted the confusion created by COCOBOD’s communications, “Another release was issued by the Public Affairs Department of the same COCOBOD, titled ‘Public Should Disregard Any Statement Suggesting a Producer Price Announcement, ’and they also gave two different reasons as to why they cannot adjust the producer price.”
He emphasized the Minority’s dissatisfaction, stating, “We are shocked and highly disappointed by the two releases, which both point to one fact: the COCOBOD and, for that matter, the NDC government will not increase the producer price of cocoa for the 2025 and 2026 seasons.”
