The youth of Kusaug in Bawku have officially announced their cooperation with the Ghana Police Service following the recent unrest sparked by the killing of a community member.
In a press statement, the group expressed gratitude to their community for standing firm in defense of their sovereignty while calling for unity and reconciliation.
The statement comes after the swift intervention of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), who visited the Zugraan, the Paramount Chief of Kusaug, in the aftermath of the incident. The youth applauded the IGP for his private and public apology to the Zugraan and the Kusaug people.
“Zugraan has accepted the apology, since traditionally Kusaas do not reject apologies. He has instructed everyone to be calm, forgive and ask the youth to turn a new page with the police,” the statement said.
The group lauded the IGP’s prompt response and described it as a demonstration of the police service’s commitment to ensuring such an incident does not repeat itself.
“We applaud everyone for the swift and passionate action, but more importantly, we welcome the steps taken by the IGP to mend relations and promote peace,” they said.
In a reconciliatory tone, the youth assured the government and security agencies of their readiness to work collaboratively going forward.
“We wish to assure the government of Ghana, the Interior Ministry, the Defence Ministry, the National Security Coordinator, the Regional Security Council, the Municipal Security Council and precisely the IGP and the Ghana Police Service that Kusaug youth is ready to turn a new page,” the statement read.
The youth called for peace, forgiveness, and rejuvenation of Kusaug’s relationship with the security forces.
