Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwa, says strong public support for the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo is driven by long-standing public distrust in the judiciary and perceptions of corruption.

His comments follow a new Global InfoAnalytics poll which shows that 52% of Ghanaians favour the Chief Justice’s removal, while only 20% oppose it. Another 18% of respondents were neutral, with 10% expressing no opinion.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue on Saturday, April 19, 2025, Mussa Dankwa explained that the survey results reflect deeper sentiments rooted in earlier polling trends.

“I’ll want to respond to you using data, because I don’t want to speak my opinion and make inferences. In 2023, the Supreme Court by voters—majority, almost 60%—did not trust the Supreme Court. They had low confidence in the Supreme Court in 2020, according to the polls,” he said.

“In the recent poll we also did, you’ll notice that the Supreme Court is now perceived to be the third most corrupt public institution in Ghana today. So if you add one and one together—perceived to be least confidence from voters and most corrupt, number three—people will tend to add the dots and say that the person who may be leading the courts, any reason to get her out they may think it’s justified. I think their perception they have given us in terms of her removal may have been shaped in terms of these two public opinion.”
