The Parliamentary Select Committee on Health has commenced a four-day nationwide tour of Regional and Teaching Hospitals to assess the state of healthcare infrastructure and service delivery across Ghana.
The tour, which begins Tuesday, 22nd April and ends on Friday, 25th April 2025, will see Members of the Health Committee split into three teams to visit over a dozen hospitals across the country.
According to a statement issued by the Director of Media Relations of Parliament, the initiative forms part of the Committee’s mandate to provide effective oversight of the country’s health sector.
Team One will tour Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, Nalerigu Regional Hospital, Tamale Teaching Hospital, Tamale Regional Hospital, and Wa Regional Hospital.
Team Two will focus on Damongo Regional Hospital, Techiman Regional Hospital, Sunyani Regional Hospital, and Goaso Regional Hospital.
Team Three is assigned to Kumasi Regional Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Koforidua Regional Hospital, Ho Regional Hospital, 37 Military Hospital, and the Greater Accra Regional Hospital.
The visits are expected to include detailed facility inspections, stakeholder meetings, and direct interactions with hospital staff and patients.
The Committee urges hospital administrators, healthcare professionals, and patients to actively participate in discussions during the visits, offering honest feedback on conditions and service delivery challenges.
“This is a chance for stakeholders to share insights that could directly shape future healthcare policy and investment,” the statement emphasized.
The Parliamentary Health Committee plays a critical role in monitoring Ghana’s health sector, ensuring policies are effectively implemented and institutions are held accountable to their mandate.
The findings from this week’s tour are expected to feed into a comprehensive report that will inform Parliamentary debate and potential policy amendments aimed at improving the national health system.
