Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, the current President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), has  appealed to members of the association to grant him an additional three-year term in office.

He emphasized that this extension would allow him to continue his mission of transforming the GJA and realizing his vision for the association.

The GJA has scheduled its national and regional elections for June 30, 2025, where new Executives  will be elected to manage the association for a three-year period.

During a meeting in Sunyani with members of the Bono and Ahafo branches of the GJA, Mr. Dwumfour highlighted the achievements of his leadership thus far and expressed the need for more time to solidify the progress made toward a more dynamic association.

“It has not been easy to turn things around.

However, we remain committed to sacrificing our all to transform and give the association a new identity,” he stated, adding, “our association has regained the lost respect and glory.”

Mr. Dwumfour noted, “Today, the GJA has reclaimed her rightful position as a key voice in the media industry, thereby leading the discourse on national issues, and that is among the transformations we are working to consolidate.”

He pointed out the notable advancements made at the Ghana International Press Center and said that the association’s advocacy for journalists’ rights had significantly improved, drawing necessary public attention.

He recalled the pivotal role the association played in advocating for the arrest of a suspect linked to the murder of the late investigative journalist Ahmed Suale. Additionally, Mr. Dwumfour announced that the GJA had signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Wisconsin International University College in Accra to provide members with opportunities for career advancement.

He also mentioned that the association had organized over 20 capacity-building workshops and training programs, collaborating with the United States and Spanish Embassies in Accra, as well as the Electoral Commission.

“The successful organization and hosting of the Third African Media Conference in Ghana showed the excellent leadership of the association,” Mr. Dwumfour said, adding that plans are in place for the nation to host two other significant events: the Federation of African Journalists and the West African Journalist Association Conferences.

He asserted, “The GJA requires a leader who can boldly speak the truth and safeguard the welfare of all journalists by providing a clear direction without fear or favour,” urging members to maintain their trust and confidence and re-elect him when they go to the polls
