Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Mr. Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, has disclosed that government is set to roll out an initiative that will create an estimated one million jobs between now and 2024.

Dubbed the Inter-Ministerial Initiative on Job Creation, the programme, he said, will strengthen coordination of job creation efforts across the various sectors of the economy.

He stated that the government will soon outline this major policy statement to Parliament.

Hon. Ignatius Baffour-Awuah disclosed this on Tuesday during question time in Parliament while responding to a question by the Member for Domeabra/Obom on the Ministry’s plan in terms of creating jobs for the youth and women in her constituency.

He indicated the Ministry for Employment and Labour Relations exists to coordinate job creation interventions in all sectors of the economy and promote harmonious industrial relations towards sustainable development.

“Contrary to the widely perceived notion that the sector creates direct productive sector jobs, the sector rather coordinates employment opportunities for decent work outcomes,” he said.

He stated that since 2017 to date, the Government has worked assiduously to create various job opportunities for Ghanaians particularly the youth across the length and breadth of the country.

A number of jobs, he said, have been created through the implementation of various government job creation interventions including Planting for Food and Jobs Programme, the One District, One Factory Programme, Nations’ Builders’ Corp (NABCO), Youth Employment Programme under the Yea and National Entrepreneurship and Innovations Programme.
