Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has made an audacious claim that his government’s initiative to set up a factory in each district of Ghana under the One District One Factory Programme has made the Akufo-Addo government more prolific than any other the country has had in the establishment of factories.

“We have more factories set up under our government than under any other government since independence,” Dr Bawumia stated.

“In addition to these indicators in the macroeconomy, we have established the development authorities, the One Constituency One Ambulance, the Zongo Development Fund and we have managed the Covid-19 pandemic by world class standard.

“We have also introduced Free TVET and Free SHS and much more.”

He made these claims on Tuesday, November 2 while addressing an audience at Ashesi University.

Dubbed ‘Bawumia Speaks’, the event was themed ‘Transforming An Economy Through Digitalisation: The Ghana Story’.

Despite restricting himself to achievements of the government in the area of digitalisation, the Vice President could not stop short of mentioning some of the feats in the other areas like job creation.

For instance, he said the Akufo-Addo-led government has surpassed any other in the Fourth Republic in their first terms in terms of job creation.

“We have recorded positive trade balance in four successive years, the best in more than a decade.”

He noted that the 1D1F initiative is a ground-up approach in stimulating industrialisation.

He indicated that all these were undertaken in the throes of the Covid-19 pandemic.
