Domestic commercial airliner, Passion Air, has hailed its first commercial flight to Ho a success.

The flight landed at 0630 hours on Saturday with 27 persons onboard.

Tickets for the flight, which start at GHC 209, sold out in days, as entities keen on patronizing aviation services in the Region took the opportunity.

The airline has taken the lead in commercialising the Ho Airport, which was completed in 2017 and became the concern of stakeholders both in and outside the Region, as it stood unutilised.

Mr Samuel Razak Tachie, Sales and Marketing Manager at Passion Air, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the Saturday flight was “very successful.”

He said the company looked forward to increasing flights to the city and providing time conscious services to the business community.

“We believe Ho would be very good. With this being the first commercial flight and at a little over 50 per cent capacity, we are hopeful that subsequent ones would be good,” he said.

Mr Tachie also expressed satisfaction with ground preparations at the Ho Airport and attested to “very good” collaboration with the management of the facility.

“So far so good, everything is on schedule and we started on a good note. This is just the beginning of many flights to the city of Ho in the not so distant future, and we are hoping to build on the patronage.”

He noted that airports were known globally to attract the business community and that the Ho airport was expected to become a vibrant business community sooner.

“We believe that the Ho Airport has very good potential,” Mr Tachie added, citing the tourism possibilities of the Region and the UNESCO-recognised oxygen credentials of Ho.

He also mentioned that the Volta Regional Capital is a known hub for conference activities in the Country, which also was a selling point for the airline.

Passion Air has staff at the airport and offers port-to-port courier services.

It currently flies twice weekly to Ho – Saturdays and Sundays.

Stakeholders in the Region, including traditional and political authorities, have welcomed the advance of the airline, which is expected to set the pace for others to follow towards developing the aviation sector nationwide.

Airlines, including Africa World Airline, which had made the initial bid to commercialise the airport, have been called upon to help develop an aviation hub in the Region and to create job opportunities for the youth.
