Sometimes, I get astonished when I see and hear people who never campaigned for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020 general elections simply because the party’s highest decision-making body – Congress – elected Nana Aufo-Addo as Presidential candidate to lead the party.
Surprisingly again, these personalities, who failed to support Nana Akufo-Addo’s candidature, are now pushing an agenda for someone to lead the party. As though it is not enough, these personalities are giving scores of NPP supporters lessons on the so-called “artificial queue” that one is supposed to join. It is within their right to offer lessons but one thing which is more certain is we can’t take moral lessons from the brothel.
Perhaps, the million-dollar question is if those who supported the then NPP Presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, had abandoned the party and its Presidential candidate, what would have been the current state of NPP? Basically, I am referring to the very platform and the political vehicle those who failed to support Nana Akufo-Addo’s candidature, want to use and by extension allow their candidate to benefit from.
Resounding electoral victory and protecting the enviable legacies of the successive NPP administrations are of paramount concern to some of us. In this regard, some of us will continue to support and serve the party regardless of who leads us to the 2024 battle.
