The Okaikwei North Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) has given the strongest indication ever to punish persons found breaking any of the sanitation laws.

He said the Assembly will not spare any culprit insisting the law will take its course as legislation backing ‘Operation Clean Your Frontage’ takes effect.

The ‘Operation Clean Your Frontage’ campaign is an audacious policy by the Accra Regional Coordinating Council’s (GARCC) and initiative of the Regional Minister, Mr Henry Quartey, aimed at dealing with the sanitation challenge in the city.

The launch of the Campaign yesterday follows months of sensitization by the (GARCC) with about 30,000 people expected to be deployed in the capital city to start a massive cleanup campaign.

In the Okaikwei North Municipality, over 300 National Service Personnel, officers from the Environment and Health Department of the Assembly, Assembly Members and members from the various departments of the Assembly led by its MCE, Boye Laryea led a Municipality-wide float to whip up public education.

Speaking to journalists, Mr Laryea said it is the vision of President Nana Akufo-Addo to make Accra one of the cleanest cities in Africa.

He stated that effective, February 2, the Assembly will prosecute anyone found dropping refuse at any point within the Municipality.

The Okaikwei North MCE indicated that nobody can feign ignorance over the campaign after the public float stressing that Ghanaians must believe in themselves to lead the change the country desired.

Now that the campaign has a legal backing, it empowers the Assembly to prosecute offenders.

Mr. Laryea for this reason urged residents to report people they find dropping rubbish to the Assembly through its call centre number 0302916849.
