The Five Infantry Battalion (5BN) headquartered at the Burma Camp says that it is ‘mobilising resources to construct 120 single room self-contain accommodation’ for young officers.

The project, which is expected to commence this month, formed part of measures to address accommodation challenges confronting officers of the Ghana Armed Forces.

Lieutenant Colonel Prince Tandoh, Commanding Officer, Five Infantry Battalion, told journalists on Thursday that the Unit had reached out to various organisations and partners in a bid to raise the needed resources to execute the project.

“By the end of the month, we are going to cut sod to start the project… We need iron rods, cement, roofing sheet and any other building material that anybody can contribute to support us, we would be glad to accept,” he said.

On Thursday, February 03, 2022, the Nilex Corp. Company Limited, suppliers of oxygen concentrators, donated 850 bags of cement valued at GHC44,200 to the 5BN in support of the project.

Mr Nilesh More, Managing Director, Nilex Corp., together with Mr Alex Osei-Owusu, the Company’s Legal Director, led the presentation.

Mr Osei-Owusu said the presentation formed part of the Company’s corporate social responsibility, adding that the Organisation recognised the significant role of the military in ensuring peace and security in the country.

“This is the start of our Company’s involvement in supporting the military to upgrade some of the facilities that you have. We recognise that the nation’s security and protection depend on you,” he said.

Mr Osei-Owusu said the Company would engage its partners and the business community to also support the project.

Lt. Col. Tandoh expressed profound gratitude to the Company for the assistance and said the Military High Command would continuously partner with the company to make the project successful.
