The Minister of National Security, Albert Kan-Dapaah, has disclosed that Ghana is on high alert to avert any terrorist attack on Ghana.

According to him, the government has picked up intelligence that terrorists operating in neighbouring Burkina Faso may be planning to launch an attack on Ghanaian territory.

He, however, gave an assurance that the security agencies are ready for any such eventuality with proactive measures, and counter-terrorism operations along the borders of the country.

“Safeguarding the country is a key priority for all state security agencies and we will remain vigilant.”

“In recent years, apart from Burkina Faso, Mali, there have been a couple of terrorist attacks in Cote D’Ivoire, about seven attacks in Benin, recently one in Togo.”

“Ghana has so far not been attacked but we believe that we have to hold ourselves at all times to ensure that if there is an attack we will be able to handle it, it does not mean the terrorist are not planning, we believe they may be planning but we believe we have to do what is necessary to ensure we overcome them,” he disclosed.

Mr. Kan Dapaah disclosed these on Monday, April 4, 2022, during question time in Parliament in response to a question on the security situation in Ghana that stood in the name of Mr. Kingsley Nyarko, MP for Kwadaso

He indicated that the Russia-Ukraine conflict has disrupted initiatives put in by the government at the beginning of 2022 to salvage the Ghanaian economy and stressed that the war has further plunged the global economy into the abyss of economic catastrophe.

He said, “The situation has been made worse by coups in some West African countries including Mali, and Burkina Faso.”

He averred that Ghana is relatively stable despite a number of threats both external and internal, that can undermine security and stability
