The Cameroon Football Federation has dragged its Algerian counterpart and national team coach, Djamel Belmadi, to FIFA over comments suggesting Cameroon connived with Gambian referee Papa Bakary Gassama to rob Algeria of a World Cup slot.

Cameroon beat Algeria 2-1 in Blida in extra time to seal a place at the 2022 FIFA World Cup at the expense of the 2019 African Champions.

One of the goals came in added time at the end of the extra time, and Belmadi was left displeased with the referee for his performance in the game.

The Cameroon Football Association explained the reason for taking this step, with statements made by Belmadi, during a media interview he gave to the electronic channel of “Al-Faf”, and his phrase “two to three personalities conspired.”

The Cameroon Football Association said in a statement published on Monday evening, that it reserves the right to follow up on “FAF” and Belmadi with the Ethics Committee of the International Football Association, in the next few days.

The Cameroonian football governing body claimed that Belmadi was alluding to the purchase of Samuel Eto’o (President of the Federation) for Gambian referee Bakari Gassama.
