Former World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Super Bantamweight Champion, Isaac Dogboe, says he will knock out his opponent, Joet Gonzalez before round seven in their final eliminator.
The bout, scheduled for July 23, 2022, in Minnesota, would see the “Royal Storm”, Dogboe, come up against the reigning WBO International featherweight title holder, Gonzalez.
According to the Ghanaian boxer, knockouts are something he loves to do when fighting, hence the need to give his opponent his first knockout in his career.
Speaking at the press conference ahead of the bout, the boxer was confident he was going to stop his opponent as it was a way to prove himself and also prepare for a trilogy against Emmanuel Navarrete, if he should win.
“It was important for me to prepare myself for him and that’s the reason why this fight is very important. It is not going to be an easy fight. I pray to God to make it easy for me and knock him out before round seven.”
According to him, he had been training for his bout and also monitoring the moves of his opponent in terms of how he fights, especially how energetic he is.
“In the past, I relied on my strengths and I went in and I wanted to knock people down, but my new team has also brought me to the ground, teaching me that the knockout is important, but I have to enjoy the game also.”
When asked how he was going to knock Gonzalez out knowing that his opponent has a 60% rating of knockouts, Isaac Dogboe said it was all about style, who could adjust, and who could adapt to the changes that day.
“Yes, I have my team out there and we are all working towards a common goal, and that goal is to win,” he added.
Mr. Abraham Kotei Neequaye, President of the Ghana Boxing Association (GBA) also threw his support behind the world champion and expressed delight to see him attain this feat.
He also commended him for his contribution to the GBA and described him as the hope of Ghana boxing.
“If you look at our Ghanaian boxers, the only hope that we have is Isaac Dogboe, and we are praying hard that he makes the nation proud and bring a world title back home.”
Mr. Edmund Poku, the Chief Executive Officer of Niche Cocoa Company Limited, a leading cocoa brand in Ghana and a new partner of Team Dogboe, also urged the boxer to give his all as he goes in chase of the WBO featherweight title he lost to Emmanuel Navarrete.
The two would battle each other in Minnesota, in the United States of America, on July 23, this year, with Isaac Dogboe in search of his 24th win, while Gonzalez Joet would also go into this fight in search of his 26th win and yet to be knocked out in a single bout.
The winner of the bout would face the current WBO featherweight champion, Emanuel Navarrete.
